Dr. Rad provides general anesthesia and sedation in the dental office for patients who cannot comfortably or safely undergo treatment while awake. Every case is administered and continuously monitored by a physician anesthesiologist, from the pre-operative evaluation through discharge.

Who needs anesthesia for dental treatment
Some patients cannot complete dental treatment while awake. Young children may be unable to cooperate for the length of a procedure. Patients with special needs or significant medical complexity may require a level of monitoring that ordinary dental care does not provide. Others have anxiety severe enough that treatment is postponed year after year until a small problem becomes a serious one.
In each case, anesthesia is not a convenience. It is the reason the treatment can happen at all, and it is the reason it can be completed in a single visit rather than spread across many appointments the patient will dread.

Sedation and general anesthesia: choosing the right depth
Sedation is a continuum rather than a set of separate techniques. Dr. Rad selects the depth that suits the patient, the procedure, and the length of the appointment, and adjusts it throughout the case.

How a case works
How an anesthesia case works, from first call to discharge

Pre-operative evaluation
Dr. Rad reviews the patient's medical history, current medications, prior anesthesia, and airway before the day of treatment. Where a patient has significant medical complexity, this may include coordination with the treating physician.

Preparation of the office
The complete anesthesia setup arrives at the dental office and is prepared before the patient does. This includes advanced monitoring, airway management equipment, and emergency medications, all checked and ready in the operatory.

The procedure
Dr. Rad administers the anesthetic and remains with the patient for the entire case, adjusting depth continuously and monitoring oxygenation, ventilation, circulation, and temperature. The treating dentist is able to concentrate on the procedure alone.

Recovery and discharge
The patient is monitored until awake, stable, and ready to leave. Written instructions are provided to the family, and Dr. Rad remains reachable afterward for any questions.
