Special needs anesthesia
Special needs dental anesthesia.
Patients with developmental, behavioral, or complex medical conditions are frequently unable to complete dental treatment in a conventional appointment, and are often turned away as a result. Dr. Rad provides the anesthesia that allows their care to proceed.
An access problem
Why dental care is deferred for adults with special needs
Care that is otherwise deferred indefinitely. Adults with special needs are among the most underserved dental patients. Treatment is postponed, then postponed again, and by the time care becomes unavoidable the problem is considerably worse and the patient considerably more distressed.
General anesthesia removes the requirement that the patient tolerate treatment awake, which is frequently the only barrier standing between them and routine care.
Dr. Rad reviews the patient's full medical history, medications, and prior anesthesia before the day of treatment, and coordinates with treating physicians and caregivers where appropriate.
Families and caregivers are given clear preparation and aftercare instructions, and Dr. Rad remains reachable afterward.
Medically complex patients
Anesthesia for medically complex patients
Closer monitoring, planned in advance. Patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, or metabolic conditions require anesthesia planned around their specific physiology. Dr. Rad's residency training covered cardiac, thoracic, major vascular, trauma, and neurosurgical anesthesia, which is the background that allows these cases to be managed confidently in the office setting.
Monitoring covers oxygenation, ventilation, circulation, and temperature continuously, and the anesthetic is adjusted throughout.
