Adult anesthesia

Adult dental anesthesia.

Dental anxiety keeps a significant number of adults from seeking care until a small problem has become a serious one. Dr. Rad provides sedation and general anesthesia for adults so that necessary treatment can be completed comfortably, and often in far fewer appointments.

01

When it is appropriate

Why adults choose anesthesia for dental treatment

Adults request anesthesia for several reasons. Some have avoided the dentist for years and cannot face treatment awake. Others have a gag reflex strong enough to make routine work difficult. Many simply need extensive restorative or surgical treatment that would take several long appointments to complete.

Dental anxiety is a clinical problem rather than a matter of willpower, and it has a clinical answer.

The depth of anesthesia is chosen at the pre-operative evaluation, after reviewing medical history, medications, and airway, and is adjusted continuously during the case.

For adults whose medical history requires closer attention, Dr. Rad coordinates with the treating physician before the appointment. See the comparison of anesthesia options.

What to expect

What to expect, from evaluation to discharge

Continuous care by one physician. Dr. Rad performs the evaluation, administers the anesthetic, monitors the patient throughout, and manages the recovery. The patient is observed until awake and stable, with written instructions provided before discharge.

Most patients have little or no memory of the procedure and describe the appointment as having passed in a moment.

Related: total intravenous anesthesia, which many adults prefer for its clearer recovery, and private and after-hours scheduling.
