Dental anesthesiology is the practice of providing sedation and general anesthesia for dental treatment. Dr. Rad is a board-certified physician anesthesiologist who provides this care in the dental office, so that treatment which would otherwise be difficult or impossible can be completed comfortably and in a single visit.

Dr. Rad's only responsibility during a case is the patient's anesthetic and physiology. He performs the pre-operative evaluation, administers the anesthetic, monitors the patient continuously, and manages the recovery, while the treating dentist concentrates entirely on the procedure.
This division of responsibility is what allows longer and more complex treatment to be completed safely in an office setting. It also means the patient is under the care of a physician whose entire training is in anesthesia.
Monitoring covers oxygenation, ventilation, circulation, and temperature throughout the case. Airway management equipment and emergency medications are prepared in the operatory before the patient arrives, and the depth of anesthesia is adjusted continuously as the procedure progresses.
Dr. Rad holds California general anesthesia permit MGA 390 with pediatric endorsement, issued by the Dental Board of California.

Anesthesia is arranged for patients who cannot complete dental treatment while awake. That includes young children, patients with special needs, adults whose medical complexity requires closer monitoring, and patients whose anxiety has kept them from care for years.
It is also arranged for treatment that is simply too extensive to complete comfortably in stages, where a single anesthetized appointment replaces many difficult ones.
Dr. Rad cares for children who cannot be treated while awake, adults undergoing longer restorative and surgical treatment, and patients with special needs and significant medical complexity.
