About
Amir Rad, M.D.
Dr. Amir Rad is a board-certified physician anesthesiologist and the founder of Los Angeles Dental Anesthesia. He specializes in providing general anesthesia and sedation for pediatric, adult, and medically complex dental patients, with a practice devoted entirely to the office-based setting.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Rad serves as an expert witness in dental anesthesia matters, providing standard-of-care analysis for both plaintiff and defense counsel. He also teaches physician anesthesiologists entering office-based dental anesthesia through his courses and webinars.
The practice
A practice devoted entirely to office-based dental anesthesia
Dr. Rad founded Los Angeles Dental Anesthesia in 2021 and has since delivered more than 2,000 documented cases of general anesthesia and sedation in dental settings. He cares for children, adults, patients with special needs, and those whose medical complexity places routine dental treatment out of reach, as well as patients for whom privacy is a condition of care.
Los Angeles Dental Anesthesia has grown from a single provider to six physician anesthesiologists, serving dental practices throughout Los Angeles County and the surrounding area. Much of that work is pediatric and special needs care, arranged for families for whom this treatment is otherwise difficult to obtain.
Cases are scheduled at the time and location that best suit the patient, including private and after-hours appointments, in Beverly Hills and throughout greater Los Angeles.
Dr. Rad personally performs the pre-operative evaluation, administers the anesthetic, and remains with the patient until discharge. Monitoring, airway management equipment, and emergency medications are prepared in the operatory before the patient arrives, which allows the treating dentist to concentrate entirely on the procedure.
Training
Anesthesiology residency and medical training
Dr. Rad completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami, where he received the Emanuel M. Papper Award for performance across four years of training. He earned his medical degree at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and completed his undergraduate studies in biochemistry at UCLA, graduating magna cum laude.
His residency training covered cardiac, thoracic, major vascular, trauma, and neurosurgical anesthesia, along with regional and peripheral nerve blockade. That depth of experience is what allows complex cases to proceed safely and predictably in the office setting.
State appointment
Appointed by the State of California to evaluate other anesthesia providers.
Dr. Rad serves as a General Anesthesia Evaluator for the Dental Board of California. In this role he conducts onsite evaluations of general anesthesia and deep sedation permit holders, assessing facilities, equipment, controlled substance documentation, and anesthesia records against state requirements, and administering simulated clinical emergencies to confirm that providers meet current safety and competency standards. Evaluators act as agents of the State.
